Online, SNY.tv is the “go-to” digital communal home for New York sports fans to get succinct, easy-to-read updates, video highlights and features, recaps, news, opinion, rumours, insight and fan reaction on their favorite New York sports teams.
Spectra's migration solution was simple to configure and use. With the help of their Professional Services (PS) and Support teams, we easily and efficiently transitioned from our legacy archive system to Spectra's BlackPearl using modern software methods. This has allowed us to expand our capabilities & performance to serve our users reliably and effectively.
The Challenge
As SNY’s archive data requirements grew, they faced challenges with their legacy MassTech MassStore storage solution. They realized they needed a more scalable, modern solution tightly integrated with their Avid Media Asset Management environment. Additionally, SNY sought a solution that would facilitate the migration of their archived content—without disruption to production operations—from MassStore to an open system capable of adapting to future needs. The proprietary nature of their current archive format posed significant limitations, making it difficult to ensure long-term accessibility and interoperability. They also needed a system that could seamlessly integrate with contemporary workflows and practices, ensuring a smooth transition and ongoing efficiency. Furthermore, cost-effectiveness and the ability to access assets over time were critical considerations, driving SNY to look for a solution that would provide both immediate and future value.
The Solution
Spectra® BlackPearl® Nearline Gateway emerged as the solution to SNY’s challenges. Offering simplicity and modernity in digital preservation, BlackPearl Nearline Gateway supports various storage targets and concurrent workflows. The Spectra BlackPearl solution, tightly integrated with RioBroker® software, reduces the reliance on expensive third-party data movers and accelerates file transfers while streamlining workflows and scaling performance and capacity. The SNY and Spectra proactive engagement, attention to the overall project, and commitment to the continuity of SNY’s production operations throughout the migration were central to its success.
