Designed for straightforward management, the T50e library provides you with a number of tools that ensure an effortless management experience. While alternative solutions offer minimal features to manage a tape library, Spectra T50e libraries provide software and hardware features that help save you time and reduce operational complexity.
Installs in under 30 minutes
From removing the unit from the packaging to configuration, it takes less than half an hour to install and set up the Spectra T50e library. The small-form 4U library can be rack-mounted or used on a tabletop. AutoInstall loads all software options, license keys, and the current firmware version automatically.
BlueScale®, the common software interface for all Spectra libraries brings enterprise command and control features to the T50e library. Available through the library’s on-board LCD color touchscreen and remote web access, BlueScale is an easy-to-navigate, browser-based library interface built into Spectra libraries that enables our solutions to work easily, flexibly and safely with your data. BlueScale manages your library, configurations, partitions, encryption keys and all library and media health monitoring in one, single interface.
Remote Library Controller
This web-based controller allows you to login and manage your library from anywhere. Define who can access the library and manage their privileges.
Consolidate Data Using Integrated Partitioning
With support for all major backup software packages and operating systems, T50e libraries fit easily into any environment. The T50e’s Shared Library Services (SLS) lets data centers implement up to 4 integrated partitions, so that a single library appears as multiple libraries. Unlike other partitioning solutions that involve complicated and expensive external partitioning servers, network connections, and proprietary client software, you can easily partition the Spectra T50e library using the library’s built-in BlueScale interface.
The Spectra T50e’s single interface provides an ease of management that is ideal for a busy IT team. The library interface is accessible both on the front panel color touch screen and remotely through a web browser, optionally secured using SSL. This is ideal for the organization that needs flexibility and efficiency in managing IT resources. The graphical interface provides simple access to all functions through icons, and a wizard-based guided configuration. With this interface, the learning curve is minimal, reducing the complexity of the multiple independent interfaces IT managers are otherwise required to use.
Better Reliability through Lifecycle Management
To help ensure your library is operating 24×7, the T50e library offers a toolset to ensure the continuous operation of your library, drives and tape media. Media Lifecycle Management (MLM) removes the question of media reliability and data integrity, ensuring the safety of your data by providing continuous assessments on more than 40 different metrics throughout the life of each tape.
Drive Lifecycle Management (DLM) helps you monitor drives by integrating tape drive analysis, diagnostics and reporting within the library’s easy-to-manage, color-coded icons that help you quickly identify the health status of a drive.
Library Lifecycle Management (LLM) helps manage the health of your library’s critical components by delivering utilization metrics to help you service your library before issues occur.
Data Integrity Verification
To give you data integrity verification, Spectra offers a sophisticated suite of standard features that allow you to actively check data already written to tape.
PreScan checks each imported tape and verifies that the tape can be written to, scanning the tape for potential issues including broken or dislodged leader and write-protected status.
QuickScan scans a tape uni-directionally by reading the length of one wrap of the tape to provide a rapid indicator of integrity of data written.
FullScan confirms that there are no media errors on the tape by reading the entire length of the tape up to the end of the recorded data. To ensure that the data is valid, you can set triggers to check the health of tapes over an interval of time or verify a specific tape’s data integrity on request. This process allows for checks of data integrity.
To help your organization secure data on tape, built-in Spectra® Encryption offers a range of affordable solutions to meet your individualized encryption requirements. Spectra’s BlueScale Encryption utilizes AES-256 bit encryption through the library for LTO tape drives. Spectra BlueScale Encryption delivers tailored, customer-centric encryption key management solutions through very flexible design options. Available with every Spectra library, Spectra Encryption meets the needs across a broad variety of customers ranging from the very small business to the largest, most security conscious enterprise.
Tape is the most cost-effective storage media available. Our commitment to you is making tape pain-free through Spectra® Certified Media. From manufacturer selection to testing and customer shipment, every step of the Spectra Certified Media process is designed to ensure you have the most reliable and automated tape storage available. No other supplier places as much emphasis on continual enhancements and features that simplify all aspects of the media management process.
Automatic Drive Cleaning
Improve reliability by automating tracking and cleaning drives. Auto Drive Clean provides library-based cleaning of LTO drives without user intervention. Automated drive cleaning results in fewer failed tape read/write operations and is the recommended method for cleaning drives. The Auto Drive Clean feature uses a dedicated cleaning partition for storing cleaning cartridges. The cleaning partition can be shared by multiple storage partitions and is used by the library to automatically clean drives whenever necessary.
Bulk Load and Single Load for Ease of Management
The T50e offers a unique bulk load/unload system that provides superior import and export performance of tapes and also provides a single port to give you the ability to make individual cartridges for offsite storage.
The T50e is a high-density storage unit that consumes minimal power and allows you to take full advantage of tape’s energy efficiency. With more power-centric features than any other comparable solution on the market, the T50e also includes tools to track your power usage. Our patented BlueScale EnergyAudit feature allows you to display and record the library’s power consumption, giving you greater control of your data center— and budget.
The T50e Library Self Monitors
Eliminate downtime by preventing unexpected failures with the T50e’s AutoSupport feature. The T50e self-monitors its drives, power supplies, controller and robotics, alerting you when they need attention. It also “phones home” by emailing a notification to you and SpectraGuard™ Support and opening a ticket automatically. You can be on the way to resolution—without making a phone call. When you’re ready to call SpectraGuard, your agent has the trace logs, status information and library configuration details to help you quickly resolve the issue before it can have an operational impact. The T50e will also upload new drive and robotics firmware from Spectra’s website, making it easy for you to keep your system up to date.
The Only Company with Assisted Self Maintenance
When a component does need replacement, Spectra gives you the option to do it yourself— without onsite support. Assisted Self-Maintenance (ASM) is an industry-first support option designed for customers that require minimal downtime or for environments where normal support services are not feasible (e.g. high-security facilities, mobile sites such as ships). ASM stocks all customer replaceable parts at your site, giving you the ability to make immediate repairs and eliminate the delays that a site visit can involve.
