Minimal software costs
Integrating BlackPearl requires minimal software acquisition costs to attach converged storage into your environment by leveraging standard file interfaces, or implementing software clients based upon RESTful interfaces. Users can develop their own clients for the Spectra S3 interface or access a library of existing software clients available through the Spectra Software Developer program.
BlackPearl’s disk storage
Object-based disk storage for BlackPearl provides fast access to data at a fraction of the cost of primary storage. Organizations have the ability to utilize the enterprise drives for instant access to changing data through an increased cache size. In addition to instant access to data, enterprise drives can be added to increase the systems cache to deliver increased throughput to storage targets behind BlackPearl. BlackPearl’s archive disk storage target, ArcticBlue, allows organizations to store infrequently accessed data on power-down archive drives for increased savings to implement an archive disk tier into their environment. ArcticBlue offers access to all data, across all bands, across all nodes, ensuring data is always available. With the benefit of advanced idling, the archive drives also save power while extending the life of the drives.

Public Cloud Storage
BlackPearl can now automatically send a copy of data to the public cloud for customers who seek content distribution with a cloud initiative, or who use cloud for disaster recovery. With the introduction of a public cloud storage destination, Spectra’s BlackPearl is the perfect solution for organizations looking to implement a genetically diverse data protection strategy and cloud initiative.
Spectra’s BlackPearl can integrate directly with Amazon S3 Standard, and Standard – Infrequent Access (Standard-IA), and is one of few products that will automatically restore data archived to Amazon Glacier™. Spectra BlackPearl provides an additional tier of reliable data storage, further strengthening its powerful automatic copy to nearline disk tape, and now Amazon Web Services. In addition to Amazon’s public cloud storage options, BlackPearl also integrates into Microsoft’s Azure public cloud.
