Room to Read
Here at Spectra Logic we believe passionately in the power of education to effect positive change. This aligns well with the values of Room to Read, which believes that the cycle of poverty can be broken through the education of young children. For this reason, we have chosen to sponsor this non-profit organization, Room to Read.
Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to establish schools, libraries and other educational infrastructure. To date they have built 1,442 schools and 12,074 libraries in areas such as Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, Laos, South Africa, Zambia and Bangladesh. They have published 585 books, distributed 9.4 million books, enrolled 10,918 girls in the Girls’ Education Program and benefited more than 5 million children.
We have supported Room to Read by funding the construction of a 4-room primary school in rural Laos. The cost of a 4-room school is $33,000.
The plaque placed on the school reads as follows:
This school was established through the cooperation of the local community, Room to Read and Spectra Logic Corporation in Boulder, Colorado USA. It is dedicated to the memory of Terence “T.J.” Doherty, who prized education and whose life serves as an example of spirit and kindness we will always remember.
