Each year since 1979, the citizens of Boulder, Colorado have come together on Memorial Day to participate in an international race event and local annual tradition known as the BolderBOULDER: the 10K race that attracts more than 50,000 participants and 70,000+ spectators annually. Participants of all ages and fitness levels are invited to participate in the event, which the BolderBOULDER website refers to as the “biggest and best Memorial Day celebration on earth.”
Spectra Logic employees have made it their own tradition to attend and/or participate in the BolderBOULDER each year. Spectra Logic supports its participating associates with registration fee reimbursement, team volunteer opportunities and the option to participate in the BolderBOULDER’s unique fitness initiative, the BolderBusinessCHALLENGE. The BolderBusinessCHALLENGE provides participants with access to online training programs and opportunities to run with some of the area’s professional runners.
Spectra media & entertainment Sales Specialist, Graham Stoner, also organizes a running training program each spring to prepare his many fellow associates for the race. Spectra’s training group meets weekly beginning in mid-March during lunchtime for the weekly, prescribed run/walk. The training program caters to all ability levels, including absolute beginners and fine-tunes the training for individuals as the program goes on. As the training progresses, the group grows together and encourages each other through every goal and achievement.
“Running has changed my life in many, many ways for the better,” said Graham Stoner. “I consider sharing that opportunity with others a way to “Pay It Forward,” and watching new athletes blossom into the sport is icing on the cake.”
After crossing the finish line at the BolderBOULDER, Spectra participants, family and friends are given the opportunity to watch the festivities from a suite above Folsom Field, cheering alongside thousands of other spectators, as runners, joggers and walkers complete the race. The suite is hosted by Spectra to support its employees leading active and engaging lives around the Boulder community.
