The New Julao Saenkao School Dedicated to Late Spectra Associate

Boulder, Colo. August 7, 2012– Spectra Logic announced today it has raised enough funds to construct a four-room primary school for impoverished youth in the Julao Saenkao village in Laos in Southeast Asia. Spectra Logic matched employee donations dollar-for-dollar as part of its Room to Read campaign, which launched in July 2011. Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children across Asia and Africa by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.

Spectra Logic, in conjunction with Room to Read, will dedicate the school to Terence “TJ” Doherty, the Spectra employee who met fatal injuries in a bicycle accident in Boulder in late July. Terence was a field sales representative focused on expanding Spectra's global markets in the Latin American region, which complements Room to Read’s international initiatives. Education was of particular significance to Terence, a former Spanish teacher who held two university diplomas, and continued beyond his master’s degree with studies abroad.

“Our associates have raised the funds to provide a new school in Laos, opening educational opportunities in a rural area and empowering children to enjoy a better future,” said Nathan Thompson, CEO of Spectra Logic. “The Laotian school is dedicated to the memory of Terence Doherty, a Spectra associate whose loss we grieve.”

Spectra Logic’s fundraising efforts included employee-led silent auctions and generous donations from Spectra’s employees, partners, friends and family. Construction on the Julao Saenkao elementary school began in December 2011.

“Room to Read plans to build 127 new schools and renovate dozens more across six countries in Asia and Africa this year,” said Lisa Strade, major gifts officer, Room to Read. “Thanks to the support of inspired investors, more than one million students will be positively impacted by Room to Read’s programs in 2012.”
