BlueScale Encryption Offers Enhanced Security, Multiple Key Option and Compression

STORAGE DECISIONS, CHICAGO, MAY 16, 2006—Spectra Logic is now shipping its Spectra T950 and T120 tape libraries with hardware-based, federally approved AES-256 encryption. Spectra libraries write to both LTO and disk, combining backup and encryption transparently into a single step. Spectra libraries with BlueScale™ Encryption let users seamlessly add a security strategy without changing backup policies, or adding hardware or software.

“As security for data at rest becomes a critical concern for IT managers everywhere, Spectra Logic has stepped into the breach,” said Steve Duplessie, founder of Enterprise Strategy Group. “BlueScale Encryption is the first embedded library product that affordably and easily provides the strongest available encryption on the market.”

Two editions of Spectra Logic BlueScale Encryption are available— Standard and Professional. Spectra encryption offers multiple layers of security, including quorum (m-of-n shares), role-based authorization and multiple passwords to access key export and import. Spectra libraries can use multiple keys on the library at one time, giving users a more flexible security strategy. Professional Edition offers compression, which requires half the media and time to conduct backup plus encryption.

“Our Spectra library with encryption integrates secure library encryption and easy-to-use key management,” said Tom Dixon, information systems manager of Advanced Micro Device Inc. “AMD can back up and encrypt data in a single step.”

Spectra Logic BlueScale encryption, with comprehensive Endura™ key management, provides a single user interface for both encryption and tape library management. IT managers can manage encryption and backup from anywhere with Web-based Remote Library Controller™. BlueScale Encryption is vendor-agnostic, platform-independent, and compliant with every major backup software application.

The affordable Standard Edition BlueScale Encryption is available at $2,500 and feature-rich Professional Edition with compression begins at $12,000.
